What this app is (and isn't), and what happens to the information you type into it. No legal jargon buried in fine print — if a real lawyer or a real data-collection feature changes any of this later, this page gets updated to match, not the other way around.

Nothing in Texas Solar Reality Check is financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. Every dollar figure, payback period, and recommendation you see is an illustrative estimate, built from the assumptions and sources listed on the Sources & methodology page — it is not a quote, an offer, a guarantee of savings, or a substitute for a real proposal from a licensed solar installer.
Before you sign a contract, take out a loan, or make any purchase decision, verify the numbers that matter to you with a licensed installer's actual written quote, a tax professional, and your electricity provider's own Electricity Facts Label. This app is a starting point for asking better questions — not a stand-in for those conversations.

This app isn't affiliated with, endorsed by, or paid by any utility, retail electricity provider, solar installer, or lender it mentions or compares, unless a page says otherwise. Electricity plans shown are a manually reviewed real sample, not a paid or ranked placement — see Sources & methodology for how that data is gathered.
This app doesn't currently sell, broker, or take a referral fee for connecting you to any installer or provider. If that ever changes, this page — and the relevant screens themselves — will say so plainly before it happens, not after.
Privacy: what happens to what you type in
This is a preview build with no user accounts, no server-side database, and no backend of its own yet. The address, usage, and configuration details you enter are held only inside your own browser, on your own device, so this app can carry your answers from one screen to the next — none of it is transmitted to or saved on a server anywhere.
How long it sticks around varies by screen: most of the wizard keeps your answers in your browser until you click "Start over" (or clear your browser's site data), so you can safely refresh or come back later without retyping everything; a few handoff screens, like uploading a quote for review, use a shorter-lived form of browser storage that clears itself once you close the tab. Either way, it never leaves your device on its own, and clicking "Start over" or clearing your browser's site data for this app removes it completely.
A couple of screens (like address lookup and, when a live solar-production key is configured, production estimates) do send your address to third-party services (Mapbox for address lookup; NREL for solar production data) purely to get an answer back — the same way a maps app would. Those requests aren't logged or stored by this app.
This app also uses privacy-friendly analytics (Vercel Web Analytics) to see anonymous, aggregate numbers — how many people visit, which pages, roughly what kind of device — with no cookies and nothing that identifies you personally. It doesn't use advertising trackers, doesn't sell or share your information, and it never sees anything you actually type into the wizard — that stays exactly as private as described above, no matter what.
That will change the moment real accounts, saved results, or real installer connections are added — and when it does, this page gets rewritten first, in the same plain language, to say exactly what's collected, why, and how to have it deleted, before that feature ships rather than after.
